“I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been at 45 – here’s how”

January Joiners: We’re speaking to Body Coach app members who joined in January 2025 to hear how the app has changed their lives in one year.

“This app has genuinely changed my life,” says Jill Jelley, 45, who joined The Body Coach in January 2025 – and her transformation is all down to strength training.

Unlike some people who join the app, Jill was very active at the time. She’s been a regular runner for 20 years, but has always had niggles and injuries, especially with her knees.

“I would regularly be told by the physio I needed to do strength training to complement my running, because if I was generally stronger I wouldn't have so many injuries,” she says. “I would always start it, but then as soon as my injury was better I would stop.”

As she approached 45 and read more about the benefits of strength training for perimenopause, she decided to give it another go. She’s previously done dumbbell workouts on The Body Coach TV, so decided to give the app a try.

How Jill’s life has changed

In one year, “the app has impacted me in so many ways”, says Jill. “I've only lost half a stone but my body shape has changed a lot – my husband regularly says he can see the difference and says I'm in the best shape I've ever been in.”

Jill says she feels stronger and much better about herself now – and best of all, she hasn’t had any running injuries this year.

“The eating plan wasn't really a reason why I joined, but I absolutely love it,” she says. “I’ve learned about fuelling your body with good, nutritious food, and making sure I get plenty of protein.”

Staying consistent with workouts

One thing Jill is most proud of is sticking consistently to weight training – something she’s tried to do so many times over the years.

“The key to that has been that I enjoy the workouts,” she says, “firstly because of the progressive nature of the cycles and secondly because there is so much choice. There is always something that fits with what you want to do because of the variety of HIIT, strength, mobility, yoga, Pilates etc.”

“On YouTube before I didn't really know what I was looking for, but the app makes it easy.”

If she could go back and give herself a message when she joined, it’d be: “Listen to Joe! There are several things that he says regularly in the workouts that have really helped me stick to the plan - that consistency is key, every time you come back and do another workout you will see progress, and to make sure you push yourself with the weights. This app has genuinely changed my life.”
