It can be hard to stick to a healthy lifestyle as it is, let alone when you’re working shifts.

“The biggest life change has been exactly that… a life change.”
For years, Kelly Sussex, 54, struggled to find joy in exercise — until she discovered a routine that finally clicked.
She’d reached the stage where she was not only unhappy with her body, but also her overall attitude to general health and fitness. “I was yo-yo-ing with different ideas of what I thought was healthy,” she says. “I was going up in dress sizes and I couldn't shift any weight.
“I was unhappy, comfort eating and drinking, a vicious circle with surprisingly no results.” Kelly decided to sign up for The Body Coach app a year ago – “since then, the improvements have been numerous”, she says. “Instead of a ‘vicious circle of unhappiness’. The whole process is a ‘circle of happiness’.”
It’s not easy to stick to any fitness plan – “but this one offers so much,” says Kelly. On The Body Coach app, you choose your level – beginner, intermediate, or advanced – and progress through Cycles to build your fitness gradually.
“The constant progress exercise cycles with Joe made it easier,” she says. “He is just so relatable and encouraging, he even makes me laugh with his comments sometimes, ‘these 10s will be a laugh’, ‘chestyyyyy’.”
Most of all, it’s enjoyable. “I used to get so bored with exercise, so the constant changes with routines and variety to choose from has been a huge reason I’ve been able to stick to it. I really enjoy the exercise, I don't like to miss it (even on holiday I have used the app!) . It has such a 'feel good factor' which in turn gets you results – physically and mentally.
“Don't get me wrong, I still have the odd glass of wine, biscuits and cake every now and then, I'm just so much more mindful about it all. It is about being realistic and this is what the app offered me.”
Improving your fitness and diet not only boosts your physical health, but your mental health, too – which is something that has stood out to Kelly. “I have seen a significant difference in my physical appearance, which has given me more confidence and made me feel much happier about being in my middle age years,” she says. “In fact I can honestly say I don't think I have looked or felt as fit as I do today since being in my 20s.”
Kelly calls the past year a total “life change” – she’s now eating healthier, sticking to her exercise routine, and adds in movement where she can like walking most evenings after dinner. “I know, as I age, more than ever movement is so important.”
“If you are considering signing up to the app, just do it,” says Kelly. “I haven't regretted it, I have made it part of my life and you can too. The benefits are endless. For me, personally I love being in a ‘circle of happiness’ as opposed to the ‘vicious circle of unhappiness’. I am never going back to that!”
