“I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been at 45 – here’s how”

January Joiners: We’re speaking to Body Coach app members who joined in January 2025 to hear how the app has changed their lives in one year.
Jane Carolan, 59, says The Body Coach was the “catalyst” for her to transform her life. “I have changed my life around,” she says. “I have lost weight, turned fat into lean muscle, got strong and most importantly got fit again. I feel like my old self.”
She joined in January 2025 with a mission to lose weight and get her exercise mojo back. Although she’s always liked exercise, in the past few years she’d mainly only been walking for movement. “I loved hillwalking and especially the social side of it but was increasingly struggling to keep up with the group,” she says.
It was when her son announced he was getting married in August 2025, she knew she wanted to make a change. “I joined in January for less than the price of a new dress!”
In one year, Jane has lost 15kg. Before, she says, she couldn’t bear to take a photo of herself – “I don’t have any ‘before’ photos,” she says. She lost most of the weight in the first 5 months and has managed to maintain and enjoy her new lifestyle.
“The biggest impact has been how I feel about myself,” says Jane. “I have so much more energy, I have dropped almost 2 dress sizes, am toned and know I look great for my age. I am also so much fitter, am one of the first up the mountain now when hillwalking and just feel so confident in myself!
“Getting started is always an achievement and I am proud of that, but sticking with it for a year has been amazing. One of my friends said that the old Jane was back!”
The plan doesn’t feel like a chore, she says, as it’s flexible and easy to manage. The challenges in the app help her stay motivated, and having the recipes on demand wherever she is has been a lifeline for her.
“Last January, I was very nervous starting out,” she adds. “Now, I would tell my January self to stick with it as I was about to fall in love again with exercise. I feel so strong now!”
