I sometimes really struggle to eat sugar in moderation. I've never been someone who could just have one chocolate bar and be done with it. If I opened one, I’d end up eating three or four without even thinking. And I know from speaking to so many people, that I’m definitely not alone in that.
So, I decided to set myself a simple challenge: go sugar-free for seven days.
The first time I set this challenge for myself, I caved on day one. The second time, I decided to properly commit to it.
I didn’t follow anything complicated. I simply focused on eating whole foods and cutting out ultra-processed foods and added sugars for one week. That was it.
I wanted this to be realistic and something I could actually stick to.
I experienced headaches. I had strong cravings. My mood dipped, and I questioned whether it was worth it. (If you’ve ever tried cutting back on sugar, you’ll probably know exactly what I'm talking about).
But those feelings didn't last.

My cravings started fading (much quicker than I expected). My energy felt more stable. I felt clearer mentally. And I started feeling better in myself overall.
By the time I reached day seven, I genuinely didn’t want to go back to how I was eating before.
