January Joiners: We’re speaking to Body Coach app members who joined in January to hear how the app has changed their lives in one year.
“I can now carry my sleeping 3-year-old granddaughter upstairs, and I don’t have to ask my husband to get heavy items out of cupboards for me,” says Body Coach app member, Janice Gibson.
Aged 62, Janice Gibson joined the app in January 2025 for one main reason: to lose weight. “I had slowly been putting weight on over a couple of years, due to hip pain,” she says.
She was unable to walk far without the pain worsening and prescribed physio didn’t help either. “I was on strong painkillers and really miserable,” she says. Janice was diagnosed with greater trochanteric pain syndrome – a condition that causes pain on the outer side of the hip.
She was told losing weight may help, so she signed up to the app, despite being worried if she’d be able to do the exercises.
Within one month, Jan had lost half a stone and felt almost instantly less in pain – ”my physio was impressed!” she says. “I felt happier in myself and didn’t get as stressed – and my hairdresser commented that I had a lot of new hair growth (my hair had been thinning due to menopause).”
Janice continued using the app – both the food plan and recipes, as well as the workouts and Classes – and really felt a profoundly positive impact on her health and lifestyle.
Since joining, she’s lost 21 pounds “The biggest impact is that I am now virtually pain-free,” she says. “I am no longer taking any painkillers and I can lift my grandchildren without pain! I can walk long distances and work on our allotment which I couldn’t do last year.
“I am sleeping better, I feel stronger and healthier and I was signed off by the physio after a couple of months on the plan (his letter to my GP credits the Body Coach exercises with strengthening my hip).”
Mostly, she’s proud she found an exercise and eating plan that she’s actually able to stick to. “I have found it easy to stick to the food plan as I hardly ever feel hungry. I always have granola prepared (my 3-year-old granddaughter loves it and calls it Grandma’s nola!), and peanut butter flapjacks or trail mix bars for snacks.”
She’ll take long walks with her husband, while mixing in strength workouts or Classes from Leroy. “I have found it’s slotted in well with my daily routine,” she says.
“If I could tell myself anything back in January, it’d be ‘don’t be afraid of the exercise’!”
