Staying on track with exercising is never easy. Life gets in the way, time can be limited, and motivation can hit us hard, too. (We’ve all been there!)
One thing we love about our Body Coach community is how much they support each other when times are tough and they’ve struggled to stay on track with exercise.
That’s why we loved the responses when one member asked in our community group: What’s ONE tip you have to be consistent with your workouts?
Body Coach app member Josh James encouraged lots of people to share their own tips and hacks that help them stay on track. For those who aren’t members of the Body Coach app community group, we’ve picked out some of the most common tips below.
Now, who’s up for a workout?
Plan ahead when you’re going to do your workout, put it in your diary, and physically tick it off when it’s done. “I see this as a non negotiable booked event,” said one member, “rather than waiting until time appears in my day.”
Waiting until you’re motivated to do a workout doesn’t work. “There’s never a right time,” wrote one app member, “you just need to show up, and give it all you’ve got that day. Motivation comes after the workout.”
Many people said focusing on a goal helped them press play on a workout – “I want to do a pull up before June,” one person wrote. Your goal might be building strength, weight loss, mental health, or just general health – whatever it is, make that your focus.
You’re much more likely to commit to doing your workout if you’re not dreading it. “Do what you enjoy, and for me that is strength training so I focus on that,” wrote one member.
If you don’t enjoy HIIT, don’t do it. If you prefer Pilates, choose that. Exercise shouldn’t feel like a punishment.
Many people suggested morning workouts as it got it over with and didn’t hang over them for the rest of the day. By getting up and doing it first thing, they said they felt energised and productive for the rest of the day.
